Hill Ward, Western State Hospital

Anyone who grew up in Lakewood, Washington knows that the old insane asylum ruins at Western State Hospital were haunted. Now a memorial and part of a community park, most of the people I met perusing the grounds could as easily recall a supernatural experience as they could a night of plain old teenage debauchery: and there were plenty of both apparently. Nice weather to shoot this- my first feature assignment for Seattle’s City Arts Magazine. I’m looking forward to more work for this publication- great design, great reproduction, folks seem serious and ambitious.
