Mark Vadon, for The Wall Street Journal

Zulily. Blue Nile. Now Home Depot. The first two he founded- he chairs all three. Wow. I can change the brakes on my van…how does that stack up?

Witnessing resuscitation, for The New York Times

UW’s Dr. Rosemarie Fernandez recently published a study indicating family members who were able to observe CPR and other resuscitation efforts on dying loved ones experienced greatly reduced post-traumatic stress, anxiety and depression. Full story here.

Michele James, for Seattle Met

Since the first time I ever laid eyes on Seattle, driving up 99, approaching the viaduct, running alongside the Duwamish as it meets the Sound, I’ve always fantasized about doing portraits of someone down with all those containers, underneath the big cranes. Well it finally happened. And what better person to shoot there than Michele...

Leprosy test, for The New York Times

Pretty unassuming folks can do incredibly amazing things. Truly. SmartLab, mad science toy makers, for The New York Times

My son Leo is not quite old enough for this right now, but if in a couple years these guys are still cranking out models of humans and animals with sticky/squishy, anatomically correct brains and innards, I know exactly what I’ll be stuffing into his Christmas stocking.

On assignment: sniper kids

I nearly stepped on these guys today. They were hunkered down in some brush in a field near Eatonville, right where I was doing some portraits for Cityvision Magazine. They saw us coming and hid as we approached. About 20 minutes into the shoot they jumped up and ran off, inadvertently scaring the bejesus out...
