I just sent this book to print, a collection of images from my first two stints of an ongoing series documenting American poverty for the Marguerite Casey Foundation. My hope is to share this book with other foundations/non-profits in effort to get involved with and inspire other projects.

Florida wrap-up
This was most likely my last shoot for the ‘money story’ project. Esther, Dave, thanks again for letting me hang out. It was a pleasure to visit your city, your church, your lives…I wish you well.
Florida
Man I want to do that, could get a chance Monday after I wrap up my shoot, but forecast says clouds, rain…My hopes of finally getting over jet lag were dashed last night as I had to switch rooms- cockroach issues. Smell issues. It’s a glamorous life indeed…
Southern hospitality
I had a lovely evening with the Brewster’s in Atlanta, documenting their goings-on as part of my ’southeast tour’ for Tom Lennon’s Peterson Foundation project. Thanks for the steak and the Sweetwater guys, ’tis a fine beer with an apt name. Now on to Destin FL, white sand beaches and two more days of...
Back in LA
These images are from a recent trip I made to Long Beach and Santa Ana for the Marguerite Casey Foundation project. I met some amazing folks down there. Saul, gracias por los nisperos- los estamos comiendo todavia.
Documentary photography for nonprofits (3 cheers!)
It’s a real treat to stumble on new outlets for this kind of photography, because, as anyone who loves documentary shooting knows, it’s not exactly a growth niche. But it is my relentlessly optimistic opinion that there are still champions and afficionados out there, and if you can find them, there is good, paying work...
Greenville, Mississippi
These are some outtakes from a project I just started working on for a foundation in Seattle. It’s been a very interesting trip, and quite the contrast to slick and polished Vancouver and the 2010 Winter Olympics. I’ve been here two days and tomorrow morning I head back to Vancouver to finish the games, then...
‘money story’ montage
I’m hours away from shoving off for the Olympics, I have a million things to do…but always a few minutes for the ol blog. This is a selection from the 300 or so edits I submitted to Tom Lennon for his young-people-recession documentary. Really fun project, can’t wait to see the end result.
So the ZUMA...
Walking away
I’m doing some more work on a project for the Peterson Foundation- just spent a few days in Phoenix with a young couple facing tough money choices, deciding to walk on a mortgage they can no longer afford. Now off to LA…
Peterson Foundation
I’m working on an interesting documentary project for the Peterson Foundation in New York. It’s a profile series of young people affected and transformed by the recession- no jobs, or new jobs, transformation, redefinition….am I shooting this, or am I in this?
